A framework for future development
Building Community Together
The need for affordable housing has always been significant, but the situation is becoming a full-scale crisis in the community we serve. Those with modest means are finding it nearly impossible to find decent affordable housing for sale or even for rent in Columbia or Greene County.

Columbia-Greene Habitat is committed to developing real solutions to this crisis. As the only dedicated developer of affordable homeownership options in the area, we have a responsibility to the community to facilitate an approach that will benefit all stakeholders.
Why Affordable Housing Matters
  • Safe, affordable housing creates stability in a workforce
  • Safe, affordable housing leads to better economic and health outcomes
  • Home ownership builds community stability and a path out of poverty; it leads to better educational performance, lower levels of crime, and greater civic engagement.

We are committed to further developing affordable homeownership solutions for our communities.
  • Habitat for Humanity has the expertise, reputation and brand strength to become a more active and powerful agent of change and progress, and to develop partnerships of shared interest.
  • We can meet the need and opportunity emerging in the 2020’s by
    • evolving to have impact.
    • diversifying the type of housing that we build and rehabilitate to serve a larger number of people who live and serve in our communities.
    • achieving consistency and competency in new forms of affordable home building.
    • forming partnerships to create a virtuous cycle that renews and expands our ability to serve our communities.

Basic, sustainable, affordable homes must be prioritized to rebuild the vitality of our County. Smaller-scale construction projects that support – not overrun – communities CAN be created to fit within the fabric of what currently exists.

Vision 2025

  • Evolve our organization
  • Diversify building types and projects
  • Expand range of activities and services
  • Form partnerships to create more opportunities for service

Strategic Goals 2023-25

Serve more Area Families in More Ways
  • We will construct at least three new homes per year by end of 2025...and grow sustainably thereafter.
  • Habitat Helping Hands will serve an average of two families per month by year end 2023 and three per month by 2025
Advocate for Affordable Homeownership
  • Together with Pattern for Progress and our neighboring Habitat affiliates, we are pushing Albany for property tax reform, either through legislation or policy change with local tax assessors.
  • We are partnering with local communities to create
housing and support services that align with community needs
"If you want to go fast you go alone but if you want to go far you go together."
