Building Community Together: Columbia-Greene Habitat for Humanity & Toolshed Launch Partnership to Empower Community

HUDSON, NY – Columbia-Greene Habitat for Humanity (CGHFH), a non-profit organization specializing in building homes affordable to working families, and Toolshed, a non-profit organization that shares tools for living ecologically, are partnering for a series of local workshops to share knowledge, hands-on skills, and build community.

“Habitat is very excited to partner with Toolshed,” said Al Bellenchia, Chief Executive of CGHFH. “Our organizations share a commitment to community service and resilience. Through programs like Habitat Helping Hands and the Toolshed Exchange lending library, we are expanding access to resources and tools. Together we can help more people than ever.”

The collaboration kicks off with an Introduction to Power Tools workshop designed to make tool use more accessible, empowering participants to take on their own home and community repair projects with confidence. The workshop will be led by builder and woodworker Angela Robbins, with additional support from Build Hudson. The inaugural workshop will take place Saturday, July 26, offering a welcoming, judgment-free space for participants of all experience levels to learn the basics of power tool safety, function, and use. The class will include demonstrations, guided practice, and opportunities to ask questions and build confidence.

“Toolshed is rooted in the belief that home is built through interconnectedness,’ said Kate Warren of Toolshed. “Sharing skills, resources, and tools fosters resilience and strengthens the web of care that underpins healthy communities. By partnering with CGHFH we can make it easier for neighbors to share knowledge and help one another.”

The workshop is the first in a series of planned collaborations between Toolshed and Habitat for Humanity, aligning with both organizations' missions to make homeownership, repair, and maintenance more accessible, especially for those historically excluded from trades-based education. Upcoming workshops will cover power tool basics, home weatherization, improving energy efficiency, household budgeting, and projects for ecological living. See Toolshed and Columbia-Greene Habitat for Humanity’s website for more information as details are announced.
