Columbia County Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to announce our first in-person event for 2021: an exclusive art gallery and silent auction featuring the artwork of local painter Dorothea Masterson! The viewing and auction is open to everyone and will be held in the ReStore on Friday, July 23, beginning at 6:00 PM. All proceeds will go towards Habitat and our mission of creating affordable housing for working families throughout Columbia County. Please email [email protected] to RSVP. Wine and other refreshments will be provided. The ReStore will also be open for shopping and browsing. Dorothea “Dee” Patrice Masterson was a lifelong artist who spent decades cultivating her talent in painting, photography, and opera. A mother of three, Dee was the first woman in her family to graduate from college, later earning her Master’s in Education. Her preferred mediums were charcoal and oil, as well as watercolors. In addition to painting and photography, Dee illustrated the 2009 children’s book The King’s Big Toe, written by S.C. Norman. Much of Dee’s work is a tribute to nature, family, and her home in Columbia County. Dee passed away on November 1, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, six grandchildren, and great-grandchild. The pieces featured in Habitat’s silent auction were generously donated by her family earlier this year. Comments are closed.
